Police Reacts to Claims That IGP Egbetokun Smuggled Names from NASS into Police Academy Admission List

The Force Headquarters has firmly dismissed an online report alleging that Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun secretly inserted names from the National Assembly into the Police Academy admission list.

Force Public Relations Officer Benjamin Hundeyin released a statement describing the report, published on November 10, 2025, as a “barefaced lie” and a “calculated attempt to mislead Nigerians and malign the reputation of the Nigeria Police Force and its leadership.”

The Police maintained that the admission process into the Nigeria Police Academy for the 2025/2026 academic session remains transparent, merit-based, and strictly guided by due process.

They clarified that a total of 370 candidates were admitted, with ten selected from each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), based solely on merit.

The statement explicitly noted that no state was given extra favours.

While acknowledging that individuals or institutions may recommend candidates for consideration, the Force emphasized that such recommendations do not override merit, nor do they influence the selection process.

The Nigeria Police Force subsequently challenged the online medium “to produce a single verifiable name from the approved list that does not meet the stipulated admission requirements.”

The Force concluded by cautioning the online medium to “desist from its habitual dissemination of false and malicious reports” and warned that it would explore appropriate legal redress, including defamation proceedings, if the misinformation campaign continues.
