The rapper, who was acquitted of more serious charges including s3x trafficking and racketeering in July, is due to appear in court on Friday, October 3, 2025, for the formal pronouncement of his sentence.
In a detailed letter to Judge Arun Subramanian, Combs described his time in a Brooklyn federal jail as transformative and extremely challenging.
He said he spent over a year in confinement alongside 25 other inmates in cramped conditions without windows or clean drinking water, and described periods when he considered giving up on life.
He asked the court to consider his personal growth and efforts at reform while determining his sentence.
Combs also apologized for past actions, including physically assaulting his former girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, during their relationship.
Ventura, along with another woman who testified during the trial, described experiences of fear, control, and abuse while interacting with Combs, which prosecutors said it is part of his pattern of harmful behaviour.
Prosecutors are seeking a minimum of 11 years in prison, over the seriousness of the offences and Combs’ past influence and power.
His defence team argued that the 13 months he has already served should count toward his punishment.
Combs asked the judge to weigh his family responsibilities, including caring for his seven children and his elderly mother recovering from brain surgery, in deciding the outcome.
Before the sentencing, Combs is expected to speak in court, and his legal team will present a 15-minute video to support his case.
The judge’s decision will determine how much longer the rapper will spend in prison for the two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
