15 candidates who went missing on their way to re-sit the 2025 UTME have been found.

They candidates were reported missing after traveling from Onitsha to Imo State for the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination.

The students, along with their school proprietor and staff from Eminent Scholars Imperial Academy, Onitsha, Anambra State, left Onitsha on May 16 to write their exams at the Computer Based Test (CBT) center in Okigwe Zone, Imo State.

The Imo State Police Command confirmed that they have been found.

They successfully completed their exams but encountered a vehicle breakdown on their way back at Amuro, Okigwe, where mobile network coverage is poor.

According to a statement released by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Henry Okoye, the breakdown caused a communication gap, leading to rumors and concerns about their safety circulating on social media.

Once informed, the police and other security agencies quickly acted, locating the stranded students and escorting them safely to Owerri.

They reportedly received care and support before continuing their journey back to Onitsha on May 17, arriving in good condition.

The police stressed that there was no abduction or foul play involved and thanked members of the public for their concern while urging people to avoid spreading unconfirmed information.

The statement read: “The Imo State Police Command wishes to clarify reports concerning fifteen (15) students of Eminent Scholars Imperial Academy, Onitsha, Anambra State, who departed Onitsha on 16th May 2025 for their rescheduled JAMB examinations at the CBT centre in Okigwe Zone, Imo State.

“The Command unequivocally confirms that no abduction took place. The students, together with their proprietor and support staff, safely arrived in Imo State and sat their examinations as scheduled.

“Unfortunately, during their return journey, the school bus experienced a mechanical failure in the Amuro area of Okigwe, where mobile network coverage is limited. This unforeseen breakdown caused a communication gap, which gave rise to unfounded speculation online and concerns for their safety.
