Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025, marking his return to power after a historic and contentious political journey.

Trump previously served as the 45th President from 2017 to 2021.

Monday’s ceremony, which was held on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, was steeped in tradition and occurred on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, adding a layer of symbolism and controversy to the proceedings.

Sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts, Trump became the second president in U.S. history to serve non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland’s example in the 19th century. Alongside him, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance took the oath as the 50th Vice President of the United States.

Thousands of Trump supporters braved cold weather in Washington, D.C., to witness the historic occasion, while demonstrations erupted across the city, reflecting the deep polarization in the nation.

Musical performances by artists such as Carrie Underwood, Lee Greenwood, and Gavin DeGraw punctuated the day’s events, with much of the entertainment moved indoors due to the chill.

The Intersection of Inauguration Day with Martin Luther King Jr. Day sparked contrasting reactions, with critics pointing out the timing’s irony given Trump’s past policies and rhetoric.

Nonetheless, the inauguration underscored Trump’s enduring appeal to his base, who see his return as a chance to reclaim their vision of American greatness.

In his inaugural address, Trump struck themes of “unity, strength, and fairness,” reiterating his campaign promises to tackle economic challenges, bolster national security, and restore what he called “America’s rightful place in the world.”

His speech emphasized a commitment to immediate action, pledging to deliver results swiftly.

True to his word, Trump signed several executive orders immediately after the ceremony, signaling his administration’s intent to prioritize issues like border security and economic reforms.

He described the coming weeks as a “blitz” of legislative and executive measures aimed at fulfilling his campaign pledges.

The inauguration drew international attention, with dignitaries such as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in attendance, alongside representatives from other nations.

Trump’s return to the global stage has sparked both anticipation and concern, with expectations of significant shifts in U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding China, NATO, and trade.

Domestically, Trump faces a deeply divided nation. His approach to contentious issues such as immigration, healthcare, and infrastructure is expected to dominate public discourse, with both supporters and critics closely watching his moves.

Security was heightened throughout Washington, D.C., with Capitol Police and federal law enforcement agencies working to prevent potential unrest.

The event proceeded peacefully, although protests underscored the political and social divisions that Trump inherits as he begins his term.

The day concluded with a scaled-down inaugural parade, adapted for weather conditions, and a series of celebratory balls where Trump and Vance mingled with supporters.

As Donald J. Trump embarks on his second term, his administration faces the challenge of governing a nation at a crossroads.

With significant domestic and international uncertainty, his leadership will undoubtedly shape the United States and the world in the years to come.

In a series of sweeping announcements during his inauguration. President Trump set the tone for his second term with an immediate focus on border security, global trade, gender, and energy independence.

He outlined key executive actions that promised to ignite both support and opposition, underscoring the “America First” agenda that defined his first administration.

Trump wasted no time addressing the southern border, declaring a renewed commitment to securing the United States-Mexico border.

He announced plans to resume construction of his controversial border wall, promising it would now include advanced surveillance technology to detect and deter illegal crossings.

“America’s borders are sacred, and protecting them is not just a priority – it’s a duty,” Trump stated in his inaugural speech.

He also signed an executive order deploying additional National Guard troops to assist border patrol operations and enforce stricter immigration controls.

Trump announced a U.S. initiative to assert greater influence over the Panama Canal, citing its strategic importance to global trade and American economic security.

The President hinted at plans renegotiate treaties with Panama to ensure “free and fair access” for American goods and military presence in the region.

President Trump stated that the official policy of the U.S. government would recognize only two genders: male and female.

He declared, “As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders” and emphasized an agenda aimed at ending diversity,

He signed an order restricting access to gender-affirming healthcare for minors, framing it as a measure to “protect children and families.”

The announcement also included new guidance for federal agencies, limiting the recognition of gender identity in official documents to biological sex at birth.

President Trump announced plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America.”

He stated, “America will reclaim its rightful place as the greatest, most powerful, most respected nation on earth,” emphasizing the name change’s appropriateness and beauty.

Highlighting the importance of energy independence, Trump unveiled an aggressive new energy policy centered on expanding drilling operations in the Gulf of Mexico.

The President announced the approval of permits for offshore oil and gas exploration, citing the need to reduce reliance on foreign energy. “American energy is the backbone of our economic power,” Trump said.
