Gernot Rohr, the former head coach of the Super Eagles, has said that failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be sad.

The West Africans were unable to compete in the most recent edition of the tournament, which was staged in Qatar.

The Super Eagles have had a dismal start to the 2026 qualifications, with three draws and one defeat in four games.

The three-time African champions are second from bottom in Group C.

Rohr, who masterminded Benin Republic’s 2-1 victory over Nigeria said it would be a disaster if the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the global soccer fiesta for the second consecutive time.

“If they miss another one, for such a football country with the best players in Africa, it would be a little bit shameful,” Rohr stated.

“So, I think the players will do everything to go there (World Cup), and also the federation and the staff. But now, of course they must be realistic and say that it’s only three points in four games.”
