At the year-end celebration organized by the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Champion State Unit, Simawa, Ogun State, on Saturday, December 2 2023, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Simawa Police Station, SP Funsho Bamgboye, emphasized the collective responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.

In her address, SP Bamgboye urged private individuals to actively engage in comprehensive efforts to combat insecurity.

Speaking on the theme, “Security of Lives and Property, Our Collective Responsibility,” SP Bamgboye underscored the importance of citizens securing their homes through measures such as consistently locking gates, doors, and windows. Particularly during nighttime, she advised thorough checks of areas like the kitchen, car park, and beneath beds before turning off lights.

Highlighting the need for caution with uninvited guests, SP Bamgboye cautioned against attending to them in private rooms to prevent potential robberies. She also urged vigilance in monitoring mechanics handling personal vehicles to prevent the installation of harmful devices.

The DPO stressed the importance of closely supervising housemaids to mitigate the risk of poisoning or unauthorized visitors.

Additionally, SP Bamgboye advised against sharing personal information with untrusted individuals, emphasizing the confidentiality of bank account details to prevent fraud.

“Your bank accounts details remain a very confidential and secrete issue. Never dump your account pin carelessly to avoid being defrauded by fraudsters,” she said.

Route Commander A.A Bolaji of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State, echoed the sentiment that security consciousness is a collective duty, not to be solely entrusted to security agencies.

He criticized the myopic view of individuals who only consider the safety of their families, emphasizing the broader responsibility of ensuring community security.
