The Court of Appeal in Lagos has overturned the decision of the Enugu State National Assembly and State House of Assembly panel, which had earlier declared Professor Sunday Nnamchi’s election invalid.

It should be recalled that on September 8, 2023, the tribunal overturned Nnamchi’s Labour Party election and pronounced Prince Cornelius Nnaji (Ike Nike) the winner of the February 25 polls.

The three-member tribunal, chaired by A. M. Abubakar, ruled that the LP candidate was ineligible to run for office since he never resigned from the institution before seeking the new job.

However, Nnamchi sought redress in the Appeal Court, seeking to set aside the verdict of the lower court.

Ruling on the matter on Friday, the Court of Appeal held that the appeal of the Labour Party candidate has merit.

The court subsequently declared him the true winner of the election to represent the Enugu East/Isi-Uzo Federal Constituency of the state.
