Abdurasheed Bawa, the immediate-past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been freed after being detained for five months.
According to Metrowatchxtra.com, the former anti-corruption czar was freed on Wednesday night.
Remember that Bawa was detained by the Department of State Service (DSS) on June 14, 2023, only hours after President Bola Tinubu suspended him from his position as EFCC Chairman for suspected abuse of authority?
Since his arrest and confinement, the secret police have not formally preferred any accusation against him or specified the nature of his offense.
Meanwhile, Tinubu named Olanipekun Olukoyede as Chairman of the EFCC on October 12.
On October 18, 2023, the Senate ratified Olukoyede’s appointment.
