Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the central bank, will be arraigned by the federal government on Thursday in Abuja’s Federal High Court on a brand-new 20-count allegation involving possible procurement fraud.
Along with a female CBN employee named Sa’adatu Yaro and her firm, April 1616 Investment Limited, Emefiele will be charged with conspiracy, N6.9 billion procurement fraud, and giving his friends illicit benefits.
The new accusation was brought against him 24 hours after the federal government said that the “illegal possession of firearms” allegation that had been brought against him before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday had been dropped.
Emefiele is accused of breaking Section 19 of the Corrupt Practises and Other Related Offences Act 2000, which carries a five-year jail sentence without the possibility of a fine, by giving Yaro, a director of April 1616 Investment Ltd., corrupt advantages.
The accused were accused of investing N6.9 billion in 98 exotic cars and armored buses between 2018 and 2020, including 84 Toyota Hilux, three Toyota Landcruisers, one Toyota Avalon, and ten armoured Mercedes Benz buses.
