The Lagos State Government on Thursday said the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) Engr. Bisoye Coker-Odusote was not suspended over the elevator accident.

A female doctor, Vwaere Diaso, died as a result of injuries sustained after she was trapped in an elevator at the Lagos Island General Hospital, Odan for more than 40 minutes.

Following the death of Diaso, various media outfits reported that Engr. Coker-Odusote has been suspended.

However, LASIMRA in a statement pointed out that it was not involved in the management of the Lagos State government’s facilities, and its GM was never suspended.

“There is a need to address the misconception being peddled by media houses and blogs online which understandably arose from the similarity between the acronyms of two agencies Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA) and Lagos State Infrastructure and Asset Management Agency (LASIAMA).

“LASIMRA is not charged with the management of the Lagos State government’s facilities but it is tasked with the responsibility to oversee the maintenance and regulation of utilities infrastructure within the public space towards ensuring the health and safety of the citizens in Lagos State,” the statement clarified.

The agency stated that its mandate is to establish standards and procedures for constructing lines and laying of cables and pipes across public lands and properties.

LASIMRA said it also ensure public safety in the use of Public Rights of Way by all utilities such as Telecommunications, Gas and Power infrastructure owners.

It therefore, implored all media houses, blogs and other publication platforms to note the similarities and effect the necessary corrections immediately in all misleading previously published stories over the sad incident.
