About Meta’s new platform, Threads, Twitter has threatened to sue the company.

Instagram, the parent company of Meta, unveiled Threads on July 5; it is a text-based Instagram companion that is comparable to other text-based social platforms, such as Twitter.

Owner of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, said on Thursday that Threads had surpassed rivals by a wide margin with 30 million members after just one day of operation.

In a letter to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg written hours after Threads was made public, Twitter attorney Alex Spiro accused him of exploiting the company’s “trade secrets and other intellectual property” to establish Threads, a Twitter competitor.

The attorney wrote: “Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information.

“Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure, or use of its intellectual property by Meta.”
