Two speakership aspirants — Aliyu Betara and Yusuf Gagdi — have stepped down for Tajudeen Abbas, the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position of Speaker of the incoming 10th House of Representatives.
According to reports, Betara and Gagdi announced their withdrawal from the race after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, at the presidential villa, Abuja, on Sunday.
Recall that the ruling APC had recently endorsed Abbas and Benjamin Kalu (Abia) for speaker and deputy speaker of the 10th National Assembly, respectively.
