The Lagos State Police Command has explained why Seun Kuti, an Afrobeat musician, was handcuffed.

Remember how Kuti, who is presently being held by the police, was led in handcuffs to the State Criminal Inquiry and Intelligence Department, or SCIID, in Panti for more inquiry and potential prosecution.

After he was seen on camera punching a police officer on the 3rd Mainland Bridge, Usman Alkali Baba, the IGP, issued an arrest warrant for him.

Despite the fact that he turned himself in freely, some Nigerians criticized the police for placing him in handcuffs.

On Twitter, a worried Nigerian questioned Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police Public Relations Officer, if the handcuffs were required.

But according to the police, that was routine practice.

@Ajinomoto wrote: “Was the handcuff necessary and why to collect his shoe? NPF sha”.

Adejobi responded, “It seems you are not familiar with detention. With this question. Anyway, it’s a normal procedure before detention.”
