Former Senate President, Dr Iyorchia Ayu has emerged as the consensus National Chairmanship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ahead of its October 31 National Convention.
This is coming after series of meetings by PDP Northern Stakeholders in Abuja.
Ayu was endorsed by the North Caucus of the PDP for the position.
The North Caucus is made up of party leaders from the North Central, North East and the North West geopolitical zones.
The new chairman-in-waiting will be presented for approval at the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in the days ahead.
Earlier, the North West zone had endorsed Barr. Ibrahim Shehu Shema as consensus candidate, with Sen. Abdul Ningi emerging as consensus candidate of the North East zone.
