The immediate-past Director of Public Relations and Information, Nigerian Air Force (NAF), Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, is dead. He died suddenly on Sunday in Abuja.
A colleague of the late officer said that he went to see somebody and was leaving for another place when he slumped.
The source said Maigida’s unfortunate death threw everybody into confusion and many officers have continued to grieve over the sad incidence.
The death of Maigida was confirmed by Group Captain Sadeeq Shehu (rtd), on his Facebook page on Monday, April 3.
“I join the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and men and DOPRI personnel to mourn the death of Air Commodore Wap Maigida. A dependable subordinate to his superiors and a compassionate superior to his subordinates,” Shehu wrote.
Maigida was appointed as the NAF spokesperson on January 6, 2023.
He took over from Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the current Commander 551 NAF Station in Jos, Plateau State.
Maigida, who was commissioned into the NAF in 1995 was a member of the 42 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy,
He holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Strategic Studies, a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History both from NDA and a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertisement from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos.
The late senior officer was also Aide de Camp to the former Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Jonah Wuyep.
