Opposition candidates in the recently concluded March 18, 2023 governorship election in Oyo State have congratulated Governor Seyi Makinde over his re-election victory at the poll.

Among those who congratulated the Oyo governor include Chief Bayo Adelabu and Sen. Teslim Folarin, candidates of the Accord Party (AP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively.

Governor Makinde disclosed the development while addressing journalists after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, in Ibadan.

While thanking the co-contestants for their spirit of sportsmanship, Makinde particularly noted that Adelabu put a call across to congratulate him while Folarin sent him a note of congratulations.

He said he was committed to Oyo State becoming the envy of all States in the country, noting that he adopted a mood of reflection going by the massive support he received from the Oyo people that made him win with a landslide.

metrowatchxtra.com reports that the event held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. Among those who also received their certificates aside Makinde include his Deputy, Mr. Bayo Lawal; and lawmakers-elect of the Oyo State House of Assembly.

metrowatchxtra.com also reports that Certificates of Return are usually issued in line with section 72 (1) of the Electoral Act 2022, and to candidates who have fulfilled the requirements both in terms of having the highest number of votes and the spread across all local government areas in a state (for governorship polls).
