President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday afternoon returned to Abuja after spending time in his hometown, Daura, Katsina State.

He left the nation’s capital for his hometown where he had hoped to wait for the conduct of the governorship and state houses of Assembly elections earlier slated for March 11 but were later postponed by a week.

From Daura, the President had attended the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LCDs) in Doha, the capital city of Qatar before returning to the town.

He is expected to return to Daura later in the week in time for the rescheduled polls.

Meanwhile, President Buhari has condoled with family, friends and associates of Senator Franca Afegbua, first female Senator of Nigeria, whose adventure into political leadership, according to a statement by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), lifted the glass ceiling for women in the legislature in the Second Republic.

The statement issued on Monday recalled being elected under the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), to represent the old Bendel North, President Buhari expressed his belief that the historical feat completely altered the perception and position of women, her State and the country, especially with the projection of exemplary leadership traits of empathy and inclusiveness, which earned Afegbua trust and respect.

The statement said President shared in the pain of loss with the government and people of Edo State, and her community, where she had remained an inspiration to young women, lifting many out of hopelessness through mentorship, and creating opportunities for others to realize their dreams in various careers.
