The police authorities in Kano State has confirmed the arrest of Mr. Sani Madakin Gini, New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) lawmaker-elect, for unlawful possession of firearms, during last Saturday’s presidential and national assembly polls.
Gini’s arrest comes barely 24 hours after another lawmaker, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, House of Reps’ majority leader, was remanded in prison by the Kano Magistrate Court for alleged murder, during the polls.
Confirming the lawmaker-elect’s arrest in a statement on Thursday, in Kano, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano police command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, noted that Gini is under investigation.
He added that the police would not relent to ensure that the law is upheld and that everyone, irrespective of their status or position, is held accountable for their actions.
“We can confirm that Honourable Sani Madakin Gini has been arrested for unlawful possession of firearms.” “He is currently in our custody and undergoing investigation,” added Kiyawa.
