Carlo Ancelotti, manager of Real Madrid, has announced that Dani Carvajal will be in his team’s squad to face Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first-leg encounter on Tuesday.
Real Madrid will meet Liverpool at Anfield on February 21 in a rematch of the 2022 Champions League final, which Ancelotti won again.
Yet, Los Blancos’ last-16 clash with the Premier League heavyweights has been hampered by Ancelotti’s fitness concerns as he seeks to reclaim the Cup this year.
Real Madrid captain Karim Benzema is expected to be fit in time to travel with the squad, but there are major doubts over midfield stars Toni Kroos and Aurelien Tchouameni.
One of the returning players will be Carvajal after coming off the bench in Real Madrid’s La Liga 2-0 away win against Osasuna over the weekend.
“Carvajal is going to play at Anfield”, Ancelotti stated in a post-match interview with Marca after Real Madrid’s La Liga win over Osasuna.
