According to the Kaduna State Fire Service, four people—Mohammadu Sani, his wife Raulatu Sani, their son Hashim Sani, 8, and a newborn named Fatima Sani—died in an early-Friday morning fire incident.
This was disclosed in an interview with newsmen conducted by the FRSC Zaria Zone Commander, Mohammad Umar, on Friday in Zaria.
According to Umar, the event happened at approximately 1:00 am on Hajiya Maituwo St. in the state’s Low-Cost Area Zaria (Zaria Local Government).
He continued by saying that the fire department was summoned after a sizeable portion of the house had already been destroyed.
However, Umar added that the timely intervention of the fire service curtailed the inferno spread to neighbouring houses in the area.
The late Sani was an Imam at one of the Mosques on Buhari Street, Low Cost, Zaria, according to an eyewitness who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria, Safiyanu Aliyu.
The members of a vigilance group manning the area made a distress call, according to Aliyu, who did not disclose the source of the fire outbreak.
He continued by saying that when they arrived outside to provide aid, it was found that the fire had completely destroyed the family’s flat.
He said the deceased family’s bones were brought to their home in Dogarawa, Sabon Gari Local Government, for Islamic burial customs.
