Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Chief Tony Ojukwu, has appealed to Muslim faithful to continue to promote kindness, love, and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

He said they need to embrace all these as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him), irrespective of tribe, religion, and political differences.

Njoku, who congratulated all Muslim faithfuls wishing them a cheerful and memorable Eid El Kabir celebration in his felicitation on the 2022 Eid El Kabir festival, said: “It is a celebration that symbolises sacrifice and the respect for the sanctity of life, which is in line with human rights norms”.

The Chief custodian of human rights in Nigeria lamented that the rising insecurity in the country characterised by kidnapping, banditry, widespread killings, and those championing different ideologies, has resulted in gross violations of human rights on a daily basis.

Ojukwu urged Nigerians to strictly adhere to the tenets of human rights and social justice so that the country would overcome its security challenges.

He urged Muslims to use the golden opportunity of the month of Dhul Hijja and the celebration to pray for peace, blessings, and favours of Allah for the country.
