22 APC Senators Planning to Join PDP, Fani-Kayode Raises the Alarm

By Abraham Olatunbosun

Twenty-two serving senators on the platform of All Progressives Congress (APC) are on the verge of defecting to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has said.

Chief Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation, is a chieftain of the APC.

A report by Newsflash newspaper disclosed that the politician made the revelation in a statement he issued via his verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.

Fani-Kayode said in the statement that the Senators are threatening to decamp the PDP because they have been denied the tickets to return to the Senate.

His words, “This is serious and something must be done to prevent it. Many are concerned and we urge our able National Chairman and the National Secretary to reach them. We cannot afford to lose them.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APC, Adamu Abdullahi had met with the party’s senators on Wednesday.

Adamu also met with the President of the Senate Ahmed Lawan for a brief meeting before the general meeting at the National Assembly complex.

The number of APC senators in the red chambers has reduced to 62 by virtue of recent switching of some its senators to PDP following their inability to secure return tickets to the chamber.

Today, two senators from Bauchi and the Imo States resigned their membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) respectively during the Senate plenary.

The Senators include Senator Dauda Jika representing Bauchi Central and elected on the platform of the APC; and Senator Ezenwa Francis Onyewuchi representing Imo East Senatorial District, who was elected on the platform of the PDP.

In a separate letter addressed to Lawan, the Senators conveyed their decision to resign their membership of the APC and PDP, to join the Labour Party and New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP respectively.
