A 40-foot container truck lost control after developing a mechanical fault and crashed into six other vehicles at Kara Bridge, inward OPIC, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Lagos State, on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, September 15, 2026, prompting a swift response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA.
According to the statement by LASEMA, the LRT Tiger Squad stationed at C3 was dispatched at 6:05 a.m. after receiving a distress call about the accident and arrived at the scene within the projected response time.
On arrival, the emergency responders found seven vehicles involved in the crash.
They included a 40-foot container truck with no registration number; a white Toyota Hilux with registration number BDG-422XY; a white interstate bus with registration number GBY 784XY; a Hyundai Odyssey with registration number AAA 48BP; a Sienna with no registration number; a Toyota Highlander with registration number EKY 491HB; and a Mitsubishi Hilux with registration number JJJ 977JT.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the 40-foot container truck, while in motion, developed a mechanical fault resulting in loss of control before ramming into the six other vehicles. The Agency immediately activated its incident management protocol and assumed coordination of the scene,” LASEMA said.

LASEMA worked with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, and the Nigeria Police Force to control traffic, prevent further incidents and protect motorists in the area.
With the assistance of private towing trucks, the affected vehicles were recovered from the carriageway and moved to the roadside.
LASEMA said the coordinated recovery operation was carried out in line with global best practices for emergency and traffic incident management.
Fortunately, no death or injury was recorded in the accident.
Following the evacuation of the vehicles, traffic flow on the bridge was restored and LASTMA officials remained at the scene to monitor the situation and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.
The recovered vehicles were later handed over to the police officer at the scene for proper documentation and further necessary action.
Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, commended the professionalism and quick response of the agency’s LRT team, LASTMA and the police.
He said their coordinated intervention helped prevent casualties and ensured that traffic was restored in record time.
The Permanent Secretary also reiterated the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting lives and property through continued investment in emergency response infrastructure, training and decentralisation of response units.
Oke-Osanyintolu urged motorists, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to maintain their vehicles regularly, comply strictly with roadworthiness regulations and exercise caution while travelling on major highways.
He also called on members of the public to report emergencies and road traffic incidents promptly to LASEMA through its toll-free emergency lines for immediate intervention.
