The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has begun moves to address welfare and accommodation gaps in police barracks after inspecting 23 residential facilities housing officers and their families.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.
The inspection was undertaken to obtain a first-hand assessment of the condition of police quarters and other welfare infrastructure and identify facilities requiring urgent rehabilitation and intervention.
The statement disclosed that during the exercise, Disu interacted with personnel and residents and assessed the state of residential accommodation and other facilities across the barracks.
The findings are expected to guide the prioritisation of welfare interventions by the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in areas where poor infrastructure could affect the wellbeing and morale of personnel.
The IGP said officers who risk their lives protecting citizens deserved decent and conducive living conditions, stressing that personnel welfare remained central to ongoing efforts to reform and professionalise the Force.
Disu assured personnel that identified welfare needs would receive appropriate attention, while emphasising the need for practical interventions based on actual conditions on the ground.
The Force stated that the inspection was also aimed at strengthening administrative responsiveness to infrastructure deficiencies and ensuring sustained investment in accommodation and other welfare facilities.
According to the police, improving the living environment of officers and their families would contribute to better morale and ultimately strengthen effective policing and service delivery.
