President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Nigerian Senate.

The nomination, according to a statement issued by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, has been formally transmitted to the Senate in line with constitutional provisions.

The development follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down from office to pursue elective office ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Mr Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is described as a fiscal and economic reform expert with over three decades of experience across the public and private sectors.

“He is a former Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led wide-ranging initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation, and governance,” the statement said.

The Presidency noted that Tegbe has advised several government institutions and private organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks and investment structuring.

He currently serves as Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.

“The NCSP coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders to advance economic and social development in line with FOCAC objectives,” the statement added.

Highlighting his relevance to the role, the Presidency pointed to Tegbe’s involvement in power sector reforms, including engagements with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

His nomination, the statement noted, is expected to bolster ongoing reforms aimed at improving grid stability and attracting sustainable investment into the sector.

“The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector,” it said.
