A chieftain of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dan Osi Orbih, has welcomed the judgment of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja which affirmed earlier decisions of the Federal High Court against the party’s controversial November 15 and 16, 2025 national convention held in Ibadan.
Orbih, who is the National Vice Chairman, South South of the party, in a statement on Monday, described the verdict as a major victory for democracy, the rule of law and the constitution of the PDP.
“I welcome the judgment of the Court of Appeal Abuja Division delivered today March 9, 2026 affirming the earlier decisions of the Federal High Court against the purported November 15 and 16, 2025 Ibadan convention,” he said.
“This judgment is a victory for democracy, the rule of law, and the constitution of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party.”
He said the ruling further reinforced the importance of due process in the conduct of party affairs and adherence to the provisions of the Electoral Act.
“The judgment has once again reaffirmed the supremacy of due process and the necessity for political parties to conduct their affairs strictly in line with their constitutions and the provisions of the Electoral Act.”
Orbih added that the decision had also strengthened the legitimacy of the party’s National Caretaker Working Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as secretary.
“It further strengthens the legitimacy of the National Caretaker Working Committee of our party led by Abdulrahman Mohammed as Chairman and Senator Samuel Anyanwu as Secretary.”
Calling for reconciliation within the party, the PDP leader urged members involved in the legal dispute to put aside differences and work together in the interest of the party.
“At this critical time in the life of our party, I call on all members and litigants involved in the matter to close ranks, embrace reconciliation, and place the collective interest of the PDP above personal considerations.”
He said the judgment provides an opportunity for the party to rebuild and reposition itself ahead of future political contests.
“This judgment offers us another opportunity to unite and reposition our party for the challenges ahead. I therefore urge leaders and stakeholders across the country to seize this moment to strengthen our structures and restore the PDP to its rightful place as a strong, vibrant, and credible political platform for Nigerians.”
Orbih maintained that the PDP remains a formidable political force capable of providing responsible leadership and a credible alternative for the progress and stability of the country.
