The minister in charge of electricity in Nigeria, Joseph Tegbe, said on Monday that many Nigerians are still struggling to get reliable power.
He admitted that people are frustrated because they have not yet seen the improvements the government has been talking about.
Tegbe said he will not pretend that the power situation is better when it is not.
He said fixing the electricity sector takes time and he will not make promises he cannot keep.
He said there are no plans to raise electricity prices, and this is not a political statement.
The minister said his government has been working to fix problems in the power sector.
They brought back a power plant in Alaoji that had not been working for three years and now produces 375 megawatts of power.
They also freed up space in the electricity lines in Lagos, Abuja and other cities so more power can flow through them.
The government also helped pay money that the power sector owed to people and companies.
They also gave out more than 350,000 electricity meters to people so they can be billed accurately for the power they use.
Tegbe said they solved a legal problem with companies that make electricity meters, and this helped them give out so many meters.
The minister said when he started his job, he wanted to make sure the government did what it said it would do.
He wanted to make the electricity grid stable and reliable. He wanted people to see real improvements.
And he wanted to be honest with Nigerians about what is happening.
He said the government will keep working to make electricity better and fix all the problems in the power sector.
