2027: Labour Party Says it Met INEC Nomination Deadline

The Labour Party (LP) has denied reports alleging that it failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the close of the nomination portal for the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said the candidates’ particulars were uploaded on July 10, 2026, four days before the July 14 deadline set by INEC.

According to Asogwa, the reports claiming the party missed the deadline were false.

“Our attention has been drawn to media reports alleging that the party failed to upload the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the expiration of the INEC deadline. This claim is false and misleading,” he said.

The party also stated that it uploaded the particulars of all its duly nominated National Assembly candidates before the portal closed, adding that the exercise was completed in compliance with INEC’s guidelines.

Labour Party faulted the report, alleging that it relied on an anonymous source rather than seeking the party’s official position.

The party said INEC’s publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates, in line with its election timetable, would confirm that its candidates were duly nominated.

It urged its members, supporters and the general public to disregard the reports, insisting that the party complied with the nomination requirements within the stipulated timeline.

The Labour Party also said political parties should focus on preparations for the 2027 elections rather than engaging in what it described as misinformation campaigns.

INEC is expected to publish the final list of candidates for the 2027 general elections in accordance with its timetable.
