The leading governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has congratulated party members nationwide following what he described as a decisive constitutional intervention by the Board of Trustees (BoT) to stabilise the party after the recent Supreme Court judgment.

In a statement issued on Friday, Ajadi endorsed the BoT’s assumption of leadership, describing it as a timely move to avert a leadership vacuum and reposition the party for unity, peace, and electoral competitiveness ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the development presents an opportunity for stakeholders within the PDP to set aside personal and factional interests and embrace reconciliation in the overall interest of the party and the country.

“I sincerely congratulate all members of our great party at this critical moment. The decision of the Board of Trustees to assume constitutional leadership is not only timely but necessary to stabilise the party and restore confidence among members nationwide,” he said.

Ajadi called on aggrieved stakeholders to respect the BoT’s position and support its efforts to convene an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which is expected to facilitate the emergence of an interim National Working Committee (NWC).

He stressed that the immediate priority should be the establishment of a credible and Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)-recognised party structure capable of fielding candidates in all elective positions in 2027.

“What matters now is unity of purpose. The BoT must be fully supported to carry out its constitutional responsibilities, including the constitution of the NEC and an interim National Working Committee that will ensure the PDP is fully prepared and compliant with electoral requirements,” he added.

The Oyo governorship hopeful also urged party leaders, governors, lawmakers, youth and women groups, as well as state chapters, to rally behind the reconciliation process.

According to him, the PDP must learn from its internal challenges and emerge stronger, more united, and focused on delivering democratic dividends.

“The PDP belongs to all of us. This is the time to sheathe swords, embrace dialogue, and rebuild trust. Our strength lies in unity, and only a united PDP can win and govern effectively in 2027,” he said.

Ajadi further commended party members who remained loyal during the period of internal crisis, expressing optimism that the BoT’s intervention would usher in lasting peace and stability within the party.
