Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has stated that he is prepared to collaborate with all members of the State Assembly, including the newly elected representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that bye-elections into the Rivers Assembly took place on February 21.
The outcome of the election had Ukalikpe Napoleon win the Ahoada East State Constituency II seat, while Loolo Bulabari Henrietta secured victory in Khana State Constituency II.
Fubara stated that the victories were well-deserved, stressing that they reflected the confidence and trust reposed in the candidates by their constituents.
“It is the beauty of democracy. When the people believe in your capacity, they will give you their votes.
“I look forward to working with them and their colleagues in the Rivers State House of Assembly for the progress of our state,” he said.
Fubara equally lauded residents of Ahoada East and Khana constituencies for their peaceful conduct before, during, and after the elections, stating that the process was a demonstration of democratic maturity in the state.
On February 19, the Rivers Assembly suspended impeachment proceedings against Fubara, following a prolonged rift that had pitted the governor against his predecessor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The political crisis had led to a six-month emergency rule in the state.
