The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 External Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results.

The Registrar of the council, Prof Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, announced the release on Monday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Wushishi disclosed that a total of 96,979 candidates registered for the examination, covering 16 subjects nationwide.

According to the Registrar, 95,160 candidates eventually sat for the examination.

He said the registered candidates comprised 51,823 males, representing 53.43 per cent, and 45,156 females, accounting for 46.56 per cent.

Providing a breakdown of performance, Wushishi revealed that 93,425 candidates sat for English Language, out of which 73,167 candidates, representing 78.32 per cent, obtained credit and above.

Similarly, he stated that 93,330 candidates sat for Mathematics, with 85,256 candidates, representing 91.35 per cent, securing credit and above.

The Registrar further disclosed that 68,166 candidates, representing 71.63 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

He added that 82,082 candidates, representing 86.26 per cent, recorded five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics.

Wushishi, however, expressed concern over the increase in examination malpractice recorded during the examination.

According to him, 9,016 candidates were booked for various forms of malpractice, representing a 31.7 per cent increase compared to the 6,160 cases recorded during the 2024 external SSCE.

The Registrar announced that five supervisors were recommended for blacklisting for aiding and abetting examination malpractice.

He said the affected supervisors included two from the Federal Capital Territory and one each from Kano, Adamawa and Ondo states.

In addition, Wushishi disclosed that four examination centres were recommended for de-recognition after being found culpable of whole-centre malpractice.

He said two of the centres were from Niger State, while one each was from Yobe and Kano states.

The Registrar reiterated NECO’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its examinations and warned that the council would continue to apply appropriate sanctions to deter malpractice.
