The Department of State Services (DSS) has arraigned former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and his son before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations related to terrorism financing.

The defendants were arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik on a five-count charge, where they both entered pleas of not guilty.

According to the charge, Malami is accused of deliberately aiding and abetting the financing of terrorism by allegedly failing, during his tenure as Attorney General of the Federation, to initiate prosecution against suspected terrorism financiers whose case files were reportedly submitted to his office.

The DSS further alleged that Malami and his son engaged in preparatory acts linked to terrorism by unlawfully possessing prohibited weapons and ammunition without the required licence.

Items listed in the charge include a Sturm Magnum 17-0101 firearm, 16 live Redstar AAA 5.20 cartridges, and 27 expended cartridges of the same brand.

The court was also told that the former Attorney General had earlier been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegations relating to fraud and money laundering.

The case has been adjourned to a later date for further proceedings.
