Former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has issued a stern warning over the defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, from the party.

The former Kano governor spoke in an interview on BBC Hausa.

He cautioned that the governor’s exit from the party will lead to consequences, adding that Yusuf and others who left with him would, in time, come to regret their decision to abandon the platform that facilitated their rise to power.

Describing the development as shocking and difficult to understand, the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement said the manner in which the governor departed the party had unsettled members and supporters across Kano State.

Kwankwaso revealed that many individuals had approached him expressing doubts about the defection, with some speculating that it might have been part of a broader political deal.

“Several people have come to me saying they believe what happened was part of an arrangement, either between me and him or between me and those around him,” he said.

“Even I, on many occasions, find it hard to believe that events unfolded the way they did.”

He stressed that time would eventually expose the full implications of the decision, noting that political actions often have lasting consequences.

It will be recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf formally defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, on Monday, following his resignation from the NNPP on Friday.
