Several parts of Nigeria were plunged into darkness on Monday following a collapse of the national grid.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator, NISO, confirmed the collapse in a statement on X on Monday.

NISO, responsible for overseeing the national power supply to electricity distribution companies, said supply had dropped to 50 megawatts as restoration of the grid began.

As of the time of filing the report, NISO said only Abuja and Ibadan had 50 megawatts of electricity as against the 3,660 MW allocated on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
