Many passengers traveling from Oyo State to other parts of Nigeria were stranded in Ibadan, on Saturday, following the closure of the bus terminals in the state.

The closure was due to the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) holding in Ibadan, on Saturday and Sunday

The convention has been mired in controversy following two court judgements stopping the conduct of the elective National convention.

Daily Trust reports that the Umar Damagum-faction of the party has gone ahead with the conduct of the convention relying on another court judgement secured at an Oyo State High Court, giving the party the go ahead to organise the convention.

Checks at major parks in the state including Iwo Road Terminal, Challenge and Ojoo which are major inter-state hub showed that the terminals were shut to passengers.

This is despite the fact that Saturday, being weekend, is always a busy day with many passengers thronging the parks to connect various states including Osun, Kwara, Niger, among others.

Some of the operators who spoke with our correspondent said the order to shut down the parks would have emanated from the leadership of the park under the Park Management System (PMS).

The PMS leadership was constituted by Makinde following the leadership crisis in the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

Currently the NURTW is making frantic efforts to repossess the parks and regain control.

During a visit to one of the terminals, some of the transporters adorned fez caps with inscription: PDP convention.

At Iwo Road, a commercial driver named Kazeem paced angrily beside his parked micra, saying, “So because politicians want to gather and talk, the whole city must suffer? What about us that feed ourselves daily from this work?”

Another driver at Ojoo park simply identified as Muri said the park operator willingly closed the parks in solidarity with the governor who is hosting the PDP convention.
