Human rights activist and former presidential hopeful Omoyele Sowore has announced a date to protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release.

He set October 20 for a protest march to the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja, demanding the release of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking via his X account on Thursday, Sowore tagged the protest, #FreeNnamdiKanuNow and said it will begin at 7 a.m.

“We now have a date for the historic #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest march to the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja. It is October 20 at 7AM!” he posted.

The activist, known for championing civil rights and political reforms, described the march as a “historic” effort to pressure the federal government into releasing Kanu unconditionally.

Kanu has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 2021, following his contentious extradition from Kenya, and faces charges including terrorism and treasonable felony.

Despite multiple court orders demanding his release, he remains detained, drawing criticism from rights organizations and prompting occasional protests in the South-East.

The demonstration is scheduled exactly a year after the #EndSARS memorial, fueling expectations among Kanu’s supporters and activists as a renewed call for justice and accountability.
