The Benue State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has sent a warning to the Federal Government.

It called on the government to immediately implement the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law of 2017.

PDP also warned FG that there is no vacant land in the state for grazing reserves or settlements.

In a statement issued by the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, the party described the persistent attacks on Benue communities as a grave threat to peace, livelihoods, and human dignity. It reaffirmed its unwavering support for the anti-open grazing legislation, saying it remains the only viable and homegrown solution to the killings and displacements plaguing the state.

“This law was borne out of deep consultation and reflects the collective will of the people of Benue. It is not just legislation—it is our shield for peace and survival,” the statement read.

The party warned the Federal Government and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu against any move to allocate Benue land for grazing reserves or settlements, insisting that such action would violate the people’s rights and heritage.

“There is no vacant land in Benue for external interests. Our land is ancestral and sacred. Any attempt to grab it under any guise will be strongly resisted,” the PDP declared.

The opposition party further urged Governor Hyacinth Alia to defend the law and resist any pressure to dilute or repeal its provisions. It warned that any concession or amendment would be viewed as a betrayal of the people’s trust.

“The time for talking is over. Our people are dying, communities are being razed, and farms are abandoned. What is needed now is action, not rhetoric,” the statement emphasized.
