Senator Neda Imasuen, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions has revealed his plan to dump the Labour Party.

According to him, he’s decamping to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, June 12, 2025.

Imaseun headed the committee that recommended the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months.

Imasuen was reportedly disbarred from practising law in the U.S. in 2010 after a petition was filed by an American client, Daphne Slyfield, who accused him of failing to represent her in a court case despite being hired and paid for the job.

Slyfield had submitted the complaint to the Supreme Court of New York, and the Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh, and Thirteenth Judicial Districts of the Court handled the case.

The grievance alleged “professional misconduct” against Imasuen. A special referee, George Friedman, was assigned to investigate and report on the matter.

The document stated that Imasuen was served with the petition in July 2009 and was given 20 days to respond. However, he failed to file his response within the required timeframe or request an extension, leading the committee to consider the charges as established.

Following his disbarment in 2010, Imasuen returned to Nigeria, where he later worked as a consultant for the European Union’s State Reforming Institutional Programme.

Speaking in Benin during the anniversary of his second year as a senator, Imasuen cited internal disarray within the Labour Party as a key reason for his move.

He described the defection as a strategic step to better align Edo South with federal development priorities under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking on his achievements, Imasuen pointed to his role in sponsoring the Federal College of Education, Abudu (Establishment) Bill and resolving over 20 public petitions through his committee.

He also mentioned various community programs, including vocational training schemes, agricultural support for rubber, cocoa, and cashew farmers, rural initiatives, and scholarships for students in his senatorial district.

“As Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics and Public Petitions, we have addressed more than 20 public petitions from across the country, making a significant impact in the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” Imasuen said.

He expressed commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s policies and called for stronger cooperation with local governments, promising continued focus on health, youth empowerment, and rural development in Edo South.
