Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Edo State chapter, has commended the state Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo for what it described as proactive and effective measures in tackling security challenges across the state.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Bob-Manuel Umoru, on Wednesday, the party acknowledged that recent initiatives by the Okpebholo-led administration have led to a noticeable decline in cases of kidnapping, cult-related violence, banditry, and herdsmen attacks in various communities.
The party lauded several of the administration’s strategic interventions, including the enactment of the Cultism Prohibition Law and the Kidnapping Prohibition Amendment Law, 2025, which introduced tougher penalties for offenders notably the death sentence for convicted kidnappers and the demolition of properties connected to criminal activities.
In addition to legislative actions, the PDP praised the procurement of over 60 new Hilux patrol vehicles and 1,000 motorcycles for security agencies, which has enhanced rapid response and operational surveillance throughout the state.
The reorganization and empowerment of the Edo State Security Network was also highlighted by the PDP as a key move in boosting community policing efforts and ensuring grassroots intelligence contributes to the state’s overall security framework.
According to the main opposition party, these measures have already yielded significant results, with a clear reduction in criminal activity and heightened safety across Edo State under Governor Okpebholo.
The PDP drew a sharp contrast between the current administration and the immediate-past government under Godwin Obaseki, noting that during the previous tenure, the state experienced a surge in insecurity, widespread firearm proliferation, and cult groups brazenly parading the streets in some instances, allegedly under police escort.
While reiterating its constitutional role as the opposition, the PDP pledged to continue holding the government accountable “with civility, maturity, and genuine concern for the well-being of the people,” rejecting any form of bitterness or sabotage.
The party, however, urged Governor Okpebholo not to relent in consolidating the gains recorded in recent months, describing the battle against insecurity as a continuous process that requires unwavering vigilance.
“It remains our prayer that Edo people get the best from every administration saddled with the responsibility of governance,” the PDP added. “We desire a prosperous society and a stable economy, and we will not shy away from constructively engaging the government to ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every household in our beloved state.”
