The Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor on International Development Partners, Hon. Collins Edomaruse, has congratulated Governor Monday Okpebholo on his electoral victory at the Appeal Court sitting in Abuja.
A three-man appeal panel on Thursday dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo challenging the outcome of the September 21, 2024 Edo state governorship election.
In a congratulatory message issued on Thursday, in Benin City, Hon. Edomaruse described the judgment as a “resounding affirmation” of the people’s will and a powerful endorsement of democratic values in Edo State.
“I warmly congratulate our visionary leader and Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, on the resounding affirmation of his electoral victory by the Court of Appeal,” he said. “This judgment not only confirms the legitimacy of the people’s mandate but further reinforces our collective belief in the sanctity of democracy.”
He praised the governor’s leadership style and his unwavering commitment to delivering inclusive and progressive governance under his administration’s SHINE Agenda—focusing on Security, Health, Infrastructure, Nutrition (Agriculture), and Education.
“Your Excellency, your emergence and today’s judicial affirmation are both testaments to your unshakable commitment to service, progress, and inclusive governance. The people of Edo spoke decisively at the polls, and once again, the courts have echoed that voice—loud, clear, and true. You have shown grace under pressure and dignity in the face of opposition,” he added.
Edomaruse emphasized that the judgment not only strengthens Governor Okpebholo’s political legitimacy but also presents an opportunity to deepen the administration’s developmental efforts, which have attracted growing interest from the international development community.
“This victory is a renewed call to deepen the transformative work already begun under your SHINE Agenda. The world is watching, and the international development community is taking note of a government rooted in purpose, driven by vision, and validated by the people,” he said.
Commending the judiciary for its professionalism and courage, Hon. Edomaruse lauded the Court of Appeal for upholding justice and reaffirming the strength of Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
“The Nigerian judiciary has, once again, proven itself to be the last hope of democracy. I commend the courage, independence, and professionalism of the judges who ensured that truth prevailed over sentiment. Their judgment is a strong message that our democracy is maturing and that the rule of law remains supreme,” he remarked.
Speaking on behalf of development partners—both domestic and international—operating in Edo State, Hon. Edomaruse reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the administration in achieving sustainable development targets.
“On behalf of all development partners working in Edo State, I extend our warmest congratulations and reaffirm our readiness to continue collaborating with His Excellency’s administration to deliver sustainable development outcomes. This judicial affirmation provides a firm ground for deeper engagement, greater confidence, and accelerated delivery of developmental goals,” he affirmed.
The Special Adviser, however, expressed optimism that the court victory would further inspire Governor Okpebholo to continue his mission of building a prosperous Edo State for all.
“Your Excellency, as you celebrate this legal and moral victory, may it renew your strength, expand your vision, and fuel your determination to build a greater Edo. This is not just a personal triumph—it is a triumph for democracy, for good governance, and for every Edo son and daughter who believes in the possibilities of tomorrow,” he concluded.
