China has increased its tariffs on the United States to 84 percent, up from 34 percent, effective April 10.
The decision comes shortly after US President Donald Trump nearly doubled duties on Chinese imports.
Recall that global markets have slumped in response to Trump imposing his latest round of tariffs, which took effect on Wednesday.
China’s foreign ministry called on the US to stop its ‘arrogant and bullying behaviour’ after Trump’s 104% duties on Chinese imports took effect.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said the US continued to impose tariffs on China “indiscriminately”.
The spokesperson said that US should adopt an attitude of equality, respect and mutual benefit, if it really wants to solve the problem through dialogue and negotiation.
