Former Senate President David Mark has said that Lt.-Gen. Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, served Nigeria with honor and dignity, regretting his death.

“We have lost a hero”, Mark said in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Mr Paul Mumeh, in Kano on Friday.

He described Useni as a distinguished officer and gentleman of all seasons.

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gen. Useni.

“My heartfelt condolences go to his immediate family, colleagues, government and people of Plateau State and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

“General Useni was a gallant soldier and a pragmatic politician who served the nation with honour and dignity,” Mark said.

He added that Useni was a successful military officer and a vibrant politician who gave his all for the good of the nation.

“His selfless services, bravery and leadership will forever be remembered and honoured,” Mark said.

The former senate president prayed that Useni’s legacies would continue to inspire generations.

He also prayed God to grant him eternal rest.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Useni was also a military governor of the defunct Bendel State.

He was equally a Minister of Transport.
