A Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the case against individuals charged in connection with the nationwide EndBadGovernance protests.

Justice Obiora Egwuatu, the presiding judge, struck out the suit after the Attorney General of the Federation’s (AGF) counsel, M.D. Abubakar, filed an application to take over and discontinue the case.

Represented by the Director of Public Prosecution, Mohammed Abubakar, the AGF, Lateef Fagbemi, invoked Section 174 of the 1999 Constitution to assume control of the case from the Inspector General of Police.

Following this, the AGF requested to discontinue the trial of the 119 accused individuals, citing the same constitutional provision.

With no objections raised by defense lawyers, Justice Egwuatu granted the request and dismissed the charges.

Although the accused persons were not present in court, the judge ordered their immediate release from detention.

This development follows an instruction by President Bola Tinubu on Monday for the AGF to terminate the charges, noting that many of the accused are minors and legally prohibited from facing such trials.
