In a significant move towards driving sustainable, eco-friendly and affordable transportation, the Rivers State Government, led by the Governor His Excellency Siminalayi Fubara, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with SIX-EV Limited to introduce electric three-wheelers and electric buses.

This people-centered project aims to address the transportation needs of Rivers State residents, particularly in light of rising fuel costs, by providing a reliable, eco-friendly public transport option.

This initiative underscores Governor Fubara’s commitment to easing the financial burden on citizens of Rivers State while promoting environmental means of transportation.

By partnering with SIX-EV, a market leader in electric mobility solutions, the State is investing in zero-emission vehicles that will reduce the state’s dependence on fossil fuels, and improve air quality, and by creating job opportunities for indigenes of River State.

The vehicle is equipped with advanced battery technology and charging infrastructure, these vehicles will offer a cost-effective and clean alternative to traditional fossil-fuel-based transport, promoting a greener future for Rivers State.

Prince Franklin Omene said: “This project is a significant step toward achieving Governor Fubara’s vision for an accessible, sustainable public transportation system that directly benefits the people,” continuing, Prince Omene avers that “By providing affordable, eco-friendly transport options, we are not only supporting local mobility but also contributing to a healthier, more sustainable environment for Rivers State.”

The deployment of electric vehicles will support economic growth by creating jobs in vehicle maintenance, charging station management, and transport operations, while simultaneously lowering maintenance and fuel costs for operators. This project is designed to make public transportation in Rivers State more accessible, affordable, and environmentally friendly.
