The PDP Progressives, a quiet but highly mobile ideological faction of the PDP have called for the immediate resignation or sack of Dr Tony Aizegbhemi, the Edo State PDP chairman, the entire State Working Committee and indicted members of the National Working Committee.

Addressing online media groups via zoom, it’s National Spokesman, Prince Greg Ogiogwa related that there had been a unanimous resolution carried by members of the PDP Progressives to demand the immediate resignation of the Edo State PDP Chairman, the dissolution of the State Working Committee and a thorough sanctioning of members of the National Working Committee who have been indicted as being part of the failed Edo PDP participation in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections.

He stated that, “this has become necessary as a result of the poor handling and mismanagement of all internal conflict resolution mechanisms in avoiding the imbroglio resulting from the gubernatorial primaries of Feb 22 2024”.

He further emphasized that this sorry situation is directly responsible for the negative judgement by the Abuja Federal High Court which has in essence rendered the Edo State PDP without a candidate at the general elections.

He said, “ You may recall that at the time of the Ad Hoc Delegates congresses, the NWC had set up an Appeal to look into the complaints of nine aspirants in relation thereto.

Upon seeing the damning evidence provided by the Aspirants the Committee recommended to the NWC to seek “a political solution” to avert the calamity that we are experiencing today.

“The NWC received the report and arrogantly ignored it. The National vice Chairman South-South also expressed very strong reservations which The NWC also ignored; rather they proceeded to organize what has turned out to be an exercise in legal futility and called it primary elections”.

“With all these as a background and the obvious frustrations and disenfranchisement of the nine aspirants, the party leadership both at National and State level have not till date made any attempt at reconciliation, this we find to be reprehensibly arrogant”.

He said, “Political power is achieved by cooperation and collaboration and your ability to convince and carry along all sort of disparate interests and tendencies is the hallmark of a successful political expedition such as elections are”.

“As it were, these organs of the party have put the party at odds and cast a cloud of doubt anxiety and odium over all party activities. We hereby urge them to do the honourable thing and resign from their positions immediately or face an in-house rebellion against there leadership”.
