A hat-trick by the Speaker and captain, Delta State House of Assembly football team, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, weekend, gave the team the desired victory over the visiting executive side
The game, which had ended a barren draw at the end of the first half of the encounter, almost left both teams devasted.
Meanwhile, at the resumed second half of the game, the captain of the legislative team, Rt. Hon. Guwor, netted the first goal, leaving the St. Patrick’s college; venue of the encounter in frenzy jubilation.
The second and third goals which came almost in quick succession, by the captain of the side, Rt. Hon Guwor, sealed victory for the host team, thereby leaving the Chief Fidelis Tilije (Commissioner for Finance) led team in near devastation.
The State Governor, Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori who was earlier billed to lead the Executive side, was absent.
The football match which is part of activities to mark the 1st anniversary of the 8th assembly was witnessed by the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme and other top government functionaries amidst heavy downpour.
In a post-match speech, Rt. Hon. Guwor expressed satisfaction with the performance of the his team, saying that the display of sportsmanship by members of the 8th Assembly was a clear indication that the Legislature was committed to the delivery of the set goals
He noted that the novelty football match was aimed at strengthening the bond between the State Legislature and the Executive Council.
The State deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme who witnessed the match, presented medals to the team players as well as trophy to the winner of the match.
