TheCable online newspaper, in commemoration of its 10th anniversary, is set to host a crucial webinar on ‘Addressing The Escalating Costs of Medicines’.
The virtual event aims to ignite a comprehensive dialogue on the alarming rise in the prices of essential medicines and medical consumables across Nigeria.
The webinar will serve as a call to action, bringing together key stakeholders to identify practical solutions that can alleviate the dire situation and ensure equitable access to essential healthcare.
“With the prices of healthcare necessities steadily surging, they are becoming increasingly unaffordable for the vast majority of Nigerians, posing a severe threat to public health and well-being,” the management of TheCable said in a statement.
“And with only 7% of the population having access to quality health insurance, and over 70% relying on out-of-pocket expenditures, the situation has reached a critical point, exacerbating the country’s already dismal health indices.”
To be moderated by Dr. Henry Ewunonu, a renowned physician and health advocate, the webinar will examine the underlying causes of prohibitive drug prices, such as high energy costs, forex encumbrances, multiple taxation, and bureaucratic challenges.
During the webinar, real-life narratives and first-hand accounts will be used to shed light on the ripple effects of the healthcare crisis on the well-being of Nigerians.
Prince Adewale Adelusi-Adeluyi, founder and chairman of Juli Pharmacy, will chair the webinar.
