Erik ten Hag, Manchester United’s manager, will have to accept a significant wage reduction if he continues with the Premier League side once the current season ends.
According to ESPN, Ten Hag would take a 25% wage reduction at Old Trafford as the squad is unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.
The Dutchman, who signed a three-year deal with the Red Devils after joining from Ajax in May 2022, is under pressure as the squad struggles in seventh position in the table.
United trails a top-four position by a massive 16 points.
The report however claims that United’s revamped football hierarchy, led by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS, has been actively exploring potential alternatives to Ten Hag.
Prospective candidates include England’s Gareth Southgate, Bayern Munich’s Thomas Tuchel, Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Brentford’s Thomas Frank, and Wolves’ Gary O’Neil.
