The Nigerian Correctional Service, NCS, has promised that it will ensure that Idris Okuneye, popularly known as ‘Bobrisky’ is protected from sexual predators during his six months imprisonment in its Ikoyi facility.
Bobrisky, a crossdresser who delights in adorning female outfits, was sentenced to six-month imprisonment by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, after he pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of naira abuse.
Bobrisky was arrested on April 3 and convicted by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday after pleading guilty to the charges of naira abuse levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Justice Awogboro asked him to clarify his gender status before his sentencing. Bobrisky told the judge that he identified as a male.
The judge subsequently sentenced him to six-month imprisonment without the option of fine, from the date of his remand.
“The act of mutilating the Naira notes has become a menace, which has continued to damage the image of the country.
“Enough of people mutilating and tampering with our currencies. It has to stop. His will serve as a deterrent to others,” noted Justice Awogboro
He’ll be protected from sexual predators – Prison officials
The Peoples Gazette said the Spokesperson of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Abubakar Umar, informed the publication that the crossdresser will be kept at its male facility since he admitted to be a man in the court.
“Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court,” it quoted Umar as saying.
Other prison officials also said Bobrisky will be offered adequate protection from other inmates who might want to sexually violate him.
“He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection,” they said.
