Angolans have joined Nigerians to celebrate the advancement of the Super Eagles into the semi-finals of the ongoing 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire on Friday.
Metrowatchxtra.com reports that a lone goal from Ademola Lookman in the 41st minute gave Nigeria the lead and victory against Angola into the AFCON semi-finals.
Celebrating the Super Eagles win, a verified X handle for Angola, #Angolans, wrote “Congratulations to Nigeria, you completely outplayed us.”
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also hailed the Super Eagles on their victory.
He wrote on X, “Incredible victory for the Super Eagles against Angola today. The entire nation stands proud. Let’s keep soaring to new heights. The echoes of triumph resonate not only on the field but also within the hearts of millions who passionately support the team.
“The energy and dedication displayed by the players mirror the spirit of a nation that continues to overcome challenges.”
The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, who watched the match live in Cote d’Ivoire also wrote on X, “As always, our dear team, with the strength of an eagle, flew us into the semi-finals, victoriously with a delightful show of patriotism and professionalism. I heartily congratulate our national team, the Super Eagles, for their electrifying performance.”
Nigeria will, on February 7, 2024, be at the 40,000-capacity Peace Stadium in Bouake to face the winner of Cape Verde vs. South Africa, to be played on Saturday for the AFCON semi-finals.
The AFCON tournament runs from January 13 till February 11.
